We are well underway in our One School, One Book program and had so much to discuss after the first three chapters of The Trumpet of the Swan.
Our first week of activities focused on Nature, Belonging, and Observation. Students explored how nests and eggs vary in size—from the Trumpeter Swan’s nest, which can span 6–12 feet, to the tiny Bee Hummingbird’s nest, just one inch across. They made bookmarks, created nature journals, and started a Wonder Wall for students to put their curious questions about nature.
Inspired by Louis’s challenge in the story, students also explored different ways to communicate and had the opportunity to learn some basic sign language at one of the activity stations.
Great fun was had by all, building excitement for next week’s activities, when we turn our focus to sound.

Temple Elementary students have completed their large puppet for the Children’s in the Arts parade! Students worked collaboratively to create an amazing piece of art that showcases their creativity, teamwork, and school spirit. This sulpture will become a new "classmate" at TES. 🎨✨

Temple Elementary had some very special visitors this week! Thank you to Chief Clark, Deputy Chief Caisse, and Captain Pervere for an engaging fire safety demonstration.
We also welcomed Deputy State Fire Marshal Fanjoy and his partner, Anthem, who demonstrated how Anthem supports fire investigations. Anthem is specially trained to detect the cause of a fire and can identify up to 60 different scents, even at levels as low as a single drop. 🚒🐾.
The students loved this presentation and we so well behaved the students were treated with the opportunity to pet Anthem.

We are excited to share this year’s One School, One Community, One Book selection: The Trumpet of the Swan by E. B. White. This classic story follows Louis, a swan born without a voice, who learns to overcome his challenges with determination, creativity, and the help of a trumpet. Along the way, readers meet memorable characters and experience a heartwarming adventure filled with humor and beautiful language.
Our hope is that families and members of the community will enjoy reading this classic together and participating in the activities we have planned to go along with the scheduled readings each week. Activities will be held every other Friday beginning on March 20, 2026. The final chapters will be read during the week of April 20, 2026, and we will celebrate this wonderful book with an evening event on April 22, 2026
Let the reading begin.
